~Spiritual Emergencies ~
Psychosis or Transcendence?

“The mystic endowed with native talents…and following the instruction of a master, enters the waters and finds he can swim; whereas the schizophrenic, unprepared, unguided, and ungifted, has fallen or has intentionally plunged and is drowning.”
~Joseph Campbell

Over 100,000 young adults are diagnosed as psychotic each year, but are they actually psychotic? The Western medical model does not allow for mystical experience and diagnoses those as psychotic experiences, pronouncing a stigmatizing label on the unwary individual and prescribing soul-deadening medication, aborting the natural spiritual development of the individual. Knowing the difference between true psychosis and spiritual transcendence is essential, as more and more of us are awakening to a greater reality, which is demonized by both science and religion. Join us as we explore this important subject.

“Spiritual emergency can be defined as critical and experientially difficult stages of a profound psychological transformation that involves one’s entire being.”
Stanislav Grof, PhD
